Racism Alive and Well In Toronto

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Three South Asian Canadian guys (all brown!) decided to visit Eden Trattoria on St. Clair for Sunday dinner and were refused service. Outlined below are the details from one of the guys who I work with:

———-

  • Eden Trattoria on St. Clair, sunday dinner (a few weekends ago)
  • The restaurant was full of of italian families, with grandmas and babies and stuff…very traditional feeling.  Not that it matters, but that was the context.
  • We were refused service!  3 brown guys apparently weren’t allowed to eat there
  • They accused us of being drunk.  can you believe that?
  • They looked at Friend1 <name changed> and said that his eyes were bloodshot.  He drove there!  Didn’t drink of course.  Said the same thing to me, and then accused my friend Friend2 <name changed> of wobbling when he walked!  We thought they were kidding, but man, they weren’t.
  • Friend2 <name changed> ordered a beer and they said that they have the right to refuse service.  He said this is “f*ing bullsh*t” and walked out.

———-

It’s always nice and refreshing to see that racism is alive and well in Toronto. Please left spread the word and get others involved in taking action against the restaurant in a way they see most appropriate. It blows my mind that people think they can get away with shit like this in one of the most multi-cultural cities in the world!

P.S. This story may get picked by Global News as well. Expect to hear more about this in the weeks ahead.

Crazy Speed Addicted Diving Birds

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

Ever notice when driving on the 400 series highways in and around Toronto that certain birds seem to dive towards the cars moving ahead of you or near your own car? I have started to notice this phenomenon and just the other day saw a pigeon do the same for the first time. It’s always the smaller black birds (possible Swallows) that do it the most so seeing a pigeon doing this came as a surprise!

So here’s what I have observed or think is happening – As the car is moving fast on the highway it creates these air currents or an air tunnel. This tunnel has displaced air around it that acts like a rollercoaster of sorts for the birds. So the birds dive towards the current/tunnel and bounce of it which must be a lot of fun for them. I believe the birds are getting addicted to this roller coaster of air!

It is rather hard to take pictures of this bird diving but I’ll see what I can do to capture it. So watch out for this the next time your zipping down one of the 400 series highways in the day time! :)

Toronto Police Officers Break The Rules Sometimes

Monday, August 25th, 2008
While Nel and me were walking home from dinner a few weeks back we decided to stop in at our local Tim Hortons (Yonge & Sheppard vicinity). When we looked inside it was busy with a long line and we happened to notice two of Toronto’s finest standing in line. So having decided not to get anything we walked on and as we reached the next street intersection (less than 2 to 3 minutes away) we noticed the Police cruised un-manned (in the picture below) parked in a Fire Access Route with a NO Parking sign and a STOP sign right next to it. I wonder where the Cops were at? : )

CLASSIC!

Taxpayers won’t notice. Will they?

Royson James

See below for some excerpts from an article written by Royson James in The Star. Toronto Councillors have it to easy and we need to start making a noise about it. I find that the majority of us complain and sit back and do nothing about it! Get the F__K up and make a frigging noise… We are being managed by a bunch of bullies.

Mr. Lobo

“So, for the rare people out there who care about such matters, note that councillors gave themselves a 1.9 per cent hike, retroactive to Jan. 1, lifting their pay to $96,805 and the mayor’s to $163,040.”

“What has concentrated governance provided GTA taxpayers in the last year? Above-inflation property tax hikes; higher vehicle licence fees; thousands of dollars of land transfer fees when a property is sold; massive water rate hikes; increased garbage-collection fees; higher recreation fees. And the administration boasts we now have a balanced budget.”

High Interest Savings Account In Toronto

Friday, October 13th, 2006

If your looking for a high interest savings account, the highest being offered right now is by ICICI Bank at 3.75%. They charge you no BIG BANK account fees but on the negative side only have a few outlets in the GTA area. The bank also has a strong Asia presence which should help those who need to transfer money internationally…

Happy Savings!

Soccer Fever Is Back – And Mr. Lob Is Injured

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

I have been playing soccer with my crew from DCI over the last two weeks and have managed to hurt my right thigh muscle bad enough that 2 hours of an ice pack seemed to do jack shit to take the pain away!

It has been a whole lot of fun to get out there and play soccer after some time. I’m totally out of shape and need to start exercising soon or I’ll be coming back from every game with some kind of injury. The highlight of our game last night was the gazillion shots a certain Mr. Totti from the opposing team took at yours truly! It was like he was using me as a bull’s eye.

Our next match is on Wednesday of next week and you should come out to support the team if you are from DCI. Also we need female players badly. So if you are female and would like to play in Toronto with a beginner soccer team then let me know.

Pick Up The Poop - We All Have To!

Wednesday, March 8th, 2006

Why don’t mounted police officers clean horse crap when on duty? It leaves a mess and is not a pretty sight at all. You can get a ticket for not picking up your dog crap… Love the double standard… Keep it up Toronto… We Love You…
