Racism Alive and Well In Toronto

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Three South Asian Canadian guys (all brown!) decided to visit Eden Trattoria on St. Clair for Sunday dinner and were refused service. Outlined below are the details from one of the guys who I work with:

———-

  • Eden Trattoria on St. Clair, sunday dinner (a few weekends ago)
  • The restaurant was full of of italian families, with grandmas and babies and stuff…very traditional feeling.  Not that it matters, but that was the context.
  • We were refused service!  3 brown guys apparently weren’t allowed to eat there
  • They accused us of being drunk.  can you believe that?
  • They looked at Friend1 <name changed> and said that his eyes were bloodshot.  He drove there!  Didn’t drink of course.  Said the same thing to me, and then accused my friend Friend2 <name changed> of wobbling when he walked!  We thought they were kidding, but man, they weren’t.
  • Friend2 <name changed> ordered a beer and they said that they have the right to refuse service.  He said this is “f*ing bullsh*t” and walked out.

It’s always nice and refreshing to see that racism is alive and well in Toronto. Please left spread the word and get others involved in taking action against the restaurant in a way they see most appropriate. It blows my mind that people think they can get away with shit like this in one of the most multi-cultural cities in the world!

P.S. This story may get picked by Global News as well. Expect to hear more about this in the weeks ahead.

1) Why do people love to gossip? I can never understand why gossiping about other folk makes entertaining conversation. I recommend a “Let’s Not Gossip” day in March 2006 – The date is set for March 8th. Spread the word all ye Bloggers and Readers of them Blog’s

2) The UAE has one of the best deep-water ports in the gulf region (It’s a free port, which makes life easy for carrier companies). They presently also house a lot of American solders and allow American war planes to fly in and out of their airports – So why are American’s so damn scared of a UAE company owning one of their deep water ports?

3) I have thought up a new marketing slogan for Revlon – “Your Beautiful”. Their entire campaign would work on the premise that women love to be told that they look beautiful – So when a woman/girl saw the slogan they would be automatically drawn to the Revlon counter – Better still the campaign would be all about using natural (good for your skin natural) skin tone color makeup

4) The other day while shopping for items to cook myself a South Asia meal I found myself in the drivers seat making a choice between 2 different tomato paste brands – I subconsciously picked the brand that had a shiny, more vibrant, creatively appealing container – Yikes!
